Tudor Primary School

The Tudor Owls are our school council.

Each class has two representatives, identified by special badges, who present their views to the committee.

The Owls organise fundraising events, make decisions on purchases, raise issues relating to school rules and policies and report pupil concerns to staff meetings and to classes.

Making a difference - some examples of our impact

The children have also been involved in a number of initiatives including the healthy packed lunch scheme which included several visits from the school nurse.  Tudor owls shared their knowledge with class friends and parents on what a healthy packed lunch should look like.  We also asked for more litter bins on the playground to ensure there was no excuse for our school grounds to be tidy.

We also remain part of the Woodfield School community initiative, which involves children from multiple school councils coming together to discuss what amenities children have in their local area.  It also allows both schools to have a lovely working relationship and for children to celebrate what makes each and every child special.

Other school-based initiatives/requests include:

  • A creation of a new author/book title 'suggestions list' for the library.
  • A request for bigger skipping ropes for lunchtimes (watch this space!)
  • A request to improve the pizza dough used for school dinners - the pizzas have been improved and taste much better, resulting in less food waste.
  • A request for new after-school clubs
  • Football nets were starting to deteriorate. These have now been replaced and 'The Owls' keep an eye on the nets at lunchtime to ensure they are looked after properly.
  • It was identified that more games were needed on the field at lunchtimes - this has been improved.
  • It was identified that girls didn't seem to play much football at lunchtime - they now have an allocated area with a football goal which they can use.
  • A suggestion has been put forward for a shaded quiet time/calming area on the field where children can sit and talk - this is currently in discussion with our site manager.

Current fundraising initiatives:

Tudor Owls voted The Hospice of St.Francis to be our chosen charity for this year. Their first planned event was a non-uniform day on Friday 5th July where they asked all children to come to school wearing something purple. The amazing families of Tudor raised £436.35.

Sophie, who came to visit us from the hospice, was able to share first-hand all the amazing work that they do and in return, our Tudor Owls (seen below) were able to fill her charity bucket up with the proceeds of our charity event.

The charity not only provides care for those who are diagnosed with a serious illness, but they also work with children and young people to help them express themselves and reflect about their situation in a safe environment through talking, art making, play and storytelling.

Previous fundraising initiatives have included:

- 'Shoesday'.  This took place on Tuesday 1st March 2022 in support of Shoeaid

(www.shoeaid.co.uk) and ECHO (https://echo-uk.org/ ) and was in response  to a call from our parent community who asked if we could support children who are diagnosed with a heart condition.

- Other charity support in 2021/22 included The Centre in the ParkDiabetes UK and Global’s Make Some NoiseWith the help of a range of (creative) events, they have managed to raise substantial funds for a number of worthy charities.

On Thursday 24th February 2022, we presented a cheque for £386.90 to The Centre in the Park and were lucky enough to meet many of the community who use this service.  We also received a wonderful thank you letter from the manager of the unit (see below).
