Have a look at what we did in November...
Magnificent Mathematicians
We have really been enjoying our maths sessions. We have been exploring how we can make 4 and 5 in different ways. We love to play shake and drop, where you put the double-sided counters into a cup and then drop them onto the board. Then our partner has to tell us about the groups they can see. We have use a sentence to stem to help us explain what we have found. For example, we might say "3 is part and 2 is a part. There are 5 altogether".
The Starry Night
We have been learning all about the painting The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh. We spent the first session looking at the painting and we had some great ideas. Some of us thought it might be the stars in a snow storm and others even thought it was the reflection of the stars in the sea.
We then spent the afternoon experimenting with making marks using a variety of tools. We used cotton buds, toothpicks, different size paint brushes and even our fingers. We explored making waves, spirals and swirls on tin foil.
Then we had a go at creating out own works of art. We chose our tools and colours to create our paintings. Look at how amazing they turned out!
Winter Walks
Our love of the outdoors has continued and we have really enjoyed going on adventures. For our reward time we picked to go to the forest so that we could explore and collect things for the classroom. Our teachers were very impressed with our tree climbing and have made sure to plan forest school activities for next term!
Just to add to the outdoor excitement, then came the snow... We could not contain our excitement and nor could our teachers! During our play time, we went on a snowy adventure. We explored painting the snow, and then we found footprints - so we went on an adventure. We quickly decided it must be the big bad mouse from the Gruffalo story!
