IMPORTANT UPDATE

UPDATE: HOME LEARNING FROM MONDAY 22ND JUNE

From Monday 22nd June we will be setting 3 days of home learning to complete our blended offer of 2 days in school and 3 days of home learning.

There will be three subheadings on your classwork tab - 'Home learning day 1, Home learning day 2, and Home learning day 3'. You can use these on the days you aren't in school. For example, if you are due to be in school on Monday and Tuesday, you will be doing the tasks under Home learning day 1 on Wednesday, 2 on Thursday, and 3 on Friday. If you are in school on Wednesdays and Thursdays, you will be doing the tasks from Home learning 1 on Monday, 2 on Tuesday, and 3 on Friday. An example timetable can be found on the class stream of Google Classroom.

These tasks are standalone tasks and do not necessarily correspond with the work we are doing in school - so don't worry too much about the order or days you complete them on.

For those children who aren't returning to school, we have tried to 'bulk out' the home tasks so you can still have a decent amount of activities to complete. How you spread this out across your week is up to you - remember to also continue using online resources such as SpellingShed, MathShed and Lexia!

If you have any questions please email your child's class teacher:

SUMMER TERM HOME LEARNING

By now, you will have received your home learning packs for the summer term. Additionally, you should have also received an email with information and a log in for Google Classroom. If you have not got these, please contact your class teacher ASAP.

From the start of the summer term we will be using Google Classroom to set work, as well as using it for pupils to send completed work back to us or us ask questions.  To help find your way around Google Classroom, we have put some tutorials together – just click on:

Commenting and navigating Google Classroom

Uploading work and showing you have completed work

We will aim to set daily English and Maths activities (these may include the CGP books or ideas based on the learning from them), plus a weekly task for the other subjects we cover at school.

The work that is set can be completed in whichever way is easiest for you, whether that is online, in a book or printed off. However, we do expect any work to completed to the same standard of presentation and effort as it would at school.

Do remember that normal school practice in regards to conduct also applies as we work within our virtual classroom (please read the notice at the bottom of this page).

Be Kind, Be Responsible, Be Respectful.

As well as the set work, we would also like children to carry on with their usual ‘out of school learning’ (such as daily reading, Lexia, Spelling Shed and SPAg.com) and for them also to keep active each day.

If you are looking for inspiration when staying active, do check out:

If you have any questions, please ask- we are all learning together.  We can be contacted on:

Here are some top tips for working:

  1. If you are unwell and unable to complete tasks, please let us know via my email address and feel better soon.
  2. You are expected to complete some learning tasks each day.
  3. Don’t give your parents a hard time, get it done early and then the rest of the day is yours. Please continue with your fantastic efforts as you would in school.
  4. We will set particular tasks on particular days. If for any reason, you cannot complete the given task that we email you, you have a list of alternatives to keep you busy.
  5. Remember, you have plenty of suggested websites (listed on Tudor website) to use and explore. If you cannot access them, work on the alternative tasks. Email me if your log in is not working, as we will do our best to fix that from our computers.

Good luck and see you all soon!

Year 5 Curriculum

We have two year 5 classes at Tudor School.

5W’s Class Teacher is Miss McKenzie and she is assisted by Mrs Wash.

5X’s class teacher is Mr Crowder and he is assisted by Mrs Durham.

Both classes are also taught by Mrs Smith and Mrs Graham.

Both classes enjoy a weekly sports session with Mr Higgins (normally on a Tuesday), as well as a class teacher led session every Wednesday.

If you want to know what Year 5 learn about through in class through their topic work, then this is the part of the website that will inform you!

Summer Term

Our topic this term is ‘Step Back in Time’. During this topic, we will be exploring how life in Britain has changed, focusing on the period after the Second World War and looking at Hemel Hempstead in particular.

In English, we will be using a range of text types linked to our topic including both fiction and non-fiction. We will be creating persuasive texts and adverts for local businesses and looking at adapting a novel into the present day.

In Maths, we will be looking at revising formal written methods and applying these to word problems, as well as reading timetables and calculating with time. We will also be revising statistics and roman numerals.

Our Science focus this term will be focus on Electricity and the circulatory system in animals.

In History, we will be looking at the development of industry within Hemel Hempstead. We will talk about different aspects, such as the railway, canal and The Paper Mill. Whilst in Geography, it will focus on how the population has changed and how this has affected the facilities within the town.

In Art and D&T, we will be focusing on textiles which will include look at creating an outfit for ‘Barbie’ or ‘Ken’ from different eras and using electrical items within our creations.

In Computing we will be exploring art online and creating pieces of art using computer programmes.

Have a look at our current topic web to give you further detail on the areas of study.  Please bear in mind that this is a working document and the plans will be adjusted to suit the children in the class and their interests as well as adapting and incorporating interesting activities and events as they come up, if they are useful for our learning.

More importantly check out our blog for all our learning adventures!
