School Meals- making the right choices...

Please see below for the school lunch menu running from October 2024 until March 2025.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT WE ARE A NUT- FREE SCHOOL. Do not give your child any foods or products that contain nuts/may contain peanuts. Please do all you can to ensure all children are safe at Tudor Primary.

School meals are cooked on the premises and there are always four choices of lunch, three of which are hot meals and one cold (school packed lunch) option. There are always at least two vegetarian choices. We also offer a jacket potato option each day.  Children choose their lunch option at registration, so please ensure you have agreed with your child what they should be having on the day, so their order goes through correctly.  Parents are unable to choose for their child in advance.

School meals for all children in reception and KS1 are free.

'Packed lunch problems'

Please do consider school meals as your main option. Packed lunches can be very expensive and they are incredibly hard to keep healthy. If you insist on your child having a packed lunch, do look at the following website from the NHS that provides tips when creating a packed lunch:

 https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/recipes/healthier-lunchboxes

The Free School Meals Team encourages all families (irrespective of their income status) to register their entitlement, for Universal Infant Free School Meals, online, which will assist the school in collating the information required.

Register

For children in KS2 the cost of school meals £3.35 per meal. Payment should always be made in advance via the Arbor parent portal, or by cash in to the office.

Your child is eligible for free school meals and other concessions if you are in receipt of

  • Income support
  • Income-based jobseeker’s allowance
  • Income-related Employment Support Allowance
  • The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Child tax credit with a taxable income of no more than £16,190 and not in receipt of Working Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit during the four-week period ‘run-on’ period
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Universal credit

For more information, updates and applications, visit www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals or telephone 0300 123 4048. Mrs Cohen, Mrs Shipton and Mrs Wash in the school office are always happy to help with applications. Children who receive free school meals are also entitled to a free packed lunch for school trips.

Children may bring a packed lunch from home, at their parents’ discretion. Please note that Tudor is a NUT FREE school due to several pupils and staff members with nut allergies - please save nut based snacks and peanut butter sandwiches for at home!  All meals, whether they are school provided or made at home are eaten with their classmates at tables - in the dining hall for Foundation Stage and KS1; in the school hall for KS2.  Please note that we also request that children do not bring in cans of fizzy drinks, or bars of chocolate or sweets - however "biscuit bars" such as a Kitkat or Penguin etc are acceptable as a treat. We make sure that children with packed lunches bring home their wrappers and leftovers in their lunch boxes so that you can see what they have eaten during the day.

Lunchtime begins at 12.15pm and ends at 1.15pm for the entire school, every day.  Children who go home for lunch should return to school by 1.10pm in time for afternoon registration.

School Milk

Milk is available to children free of charge until the term after their fifth birthday. KS1 & 2 children whose parents are in receipt of income support can also receive free milk. For those children in KS1 & 2 who are not entitled to free milk the charges vary from term to term but are approximately £25 per term. . Please make cheques payable to Herts County Council.

Unless there is a medical reason why your child cannot drink milk or water, we do not allow children to bring flavoured drinks or juice to school except as part of their packed lunch.  Drinking water is available for all children, but we do request that you bring in a named water bottle.
