24th April-stay informed about all things #TeamTudor as we start an(other) exciting term...

Newsletter 14

Thursday 24th April 2025

Welcome to the summer term. As I shared with children in assembly on Tuesday, it is a term that really excites. All that hard work from previous terms takes effect and the children produce awesome work. There are so many extra things going on in school and, let’s be honest, the weather usually helps too! The field is a magnet for fun and the children are truly active.

Some of the pictures in this first section evidence the standards in school at the end of the last term- the work was tremendous!

Now that we have a new term, we also have new themes for the learning in school. Our curriculum remains a recognised strength of Tudor and the new themes are:

EYFS (Nursery and Reception)- ‘Magnificent Minibeasts’

KS1 (Year 1 and Year 2)- ‘Turrets and Tiaras’

LKS2 (Year 3 and Year 4)- ‘Tomb Raiders’

UKS2 (Year 5 and Year 6)- ‘It’s all Greek to me!’

Use the class blogs on the school website to find out more about what your children will be learning.

If any of our ‘successful’ applicants for next year’s Reception (and/ or Nursery) are reading this on the website, all at Tudor welcome you. We had a RECORD number of applications as well as the highest number of first choices EVER! It is evident that new families had to live VERY close to the school to be allocated a space. We should all feel very proud of the continued success of OUR school…

More Tudor history from 50 years ago…

It was clear from comments that a number of you enjoyed hearing about life at Tudor when the school first opened. In the run up to our 50-year celebration, I’ll share more of the school information that the first headteacher recorded back in 1975.

Today’s screenshot mentions the headteacher tackling a blaze in rubbish left by workmen with a fire-extinguisher as well as local police having to deal with vandals on site. The rabbit was even stolen from the courtyard- how awful! ☹ Life for a headteacher has always been rather eventful…

Don’t forget your tickets for our commemorative events on the weekend of May 31st/ June 1st.

The Friends of Tudor have managed to source the country’s leading school circus experience for what will be two amazing days.

As a Tudor bonus, each ticket purchased will gain you access for what is sure to be the disco of the year. To help celebrate this 50th full school year, members of the Tudor community (old and new) are invited to groove together in the awesome circus big top on the evening of Saturday 31st May. There is sure to be some extra special surprises on the night too.

Please do ensure that EVERYONE who wants to join us purchases a circus ticket (for either one of the two days).

Entry will not be possible without one. Remember that this date is the second weekend of the half term break. We hope to see lots of past-Tudorites- this is an event for ALL OF #TeamTudor.

What a WONDERFUL weekend this is going to be…

Inclusion at Tudor Primary- a message from Miss Reading- our Leader for Inclusion:

Dacorum Family Services are offering a 'Promoting healthy sleep for your child' workshop on Wednesday 7th May and a 'Top tips for transition to secondary school' workshop on Wednesday 18th June. Both workshops are free and will be held online. To book your place, please contact Jan Nethercoat by email at: jnethercoat@hobbshillwood.herts.sch.uk or telephone 01442 401222. The Hertfordshire SEND Local Offer website lets parents, young people and professionals know what special educational needs and disabilities services are available in Hertfordshire, and who can access them. On Tuesday 29th April, 8-9pm, a member of The Local Offer team will be facilitating a webinar and will take you through the website and show you how you can use it to find support for a child or young person with SEND in Hertfordshire. To register to join this webinar, follow this link: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/4f4152bf-1619-4ae7-ba0a-d30f9b73e8cf@53e92c36-6617-4e71-a989-dd739ad32a4d

Friday Freewheeling- This is planned to be offered in a similar arrangement to the past. During the summer term and when we have good weather (as well as the right capacity of staffing- the team do this voluntarily), parents will be informed (check your emails!) when it is on. We will obviously give you a good period of notice! We hope the first session will be on Friday 2nd May from 3.15pm until 4.15pm.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS FOR NEW TERM- Do keep an eye on your emails about allocations for summer after-school clubs.

Talking of being active- The Tudor Dance Troupe performed amazingly at the Dacorum competition on Friday 28th March where they achieved a SUPER third place. Thanks to Grace Barry who supported them with their intergalactic space routine. It was ‘out of this world’! Check out their trophy!

Some Tudor mums also performed brilliantly recently- this time in the Brighton Marathon. A HUGE well done from all in the Tudor community for such a tremendous achievement.

Those medals are VERY well-deserved. GOOD LUCK to Mr Wendleken (and any other members of the Tudor community) who is taking part in the London Marathon this weekend.

In the first assembly that I mentioned at the start of this newsletter I also gave some year group specific targets for the children to work towards. Whilst year 6 must simply aim to have the BEST final term altogether, I was also able to share points with other year groups that need additional focus. As more children are being given mobile phones in year 5 (ahead of year 6) there has been a growth in issues online when interacting with each other. Whilst we understand our natural role in education, we would still hope that all parents recognise the issues if children are given free access to social media platforms that are not appropriate for their age. Children WILL make mistakes and be clumsy on occasion when interacting in such a new world. The diagram below shares the age restrictions for social media platforms:

I pledge that it will be a SUPER SUMMER TERM for all- let’s look out for each other and work in PARTNERSHIP. We also wish Mrs Durham well in her new position at the Adeyfield Academy- what a member of #TeamTudor she has been…
