Dear Parents/ Carers,
The second half of the summer term is such a busy time in school. To highlight this, we are currently completing our assessment week activities across the school including national statutory tests such as the phonics screening and the multiplication check. What continues to be pleasing in school is how confident the children are when they are tackling such tasks- the benefit of the previous hard work from the children as well as the Tudor teaching team is evident. We are proud of the academic success that Tudor is now recognised for- not only in progress but how many children also reach the highest outcomes too. Long may that continue! We are TRULY aspirational…
Let’s be honest though, it’s not tests and assessments that excite learners- our curriculum at Tudor helps us stand out! It is not an exaggeration to say that I am blown away EVERY day by something that happens in school. Following work about problems facing the oceans in year 1, David Attenborough contacted the school to share his thanks for the children’s work.
From our awesome, young Tudorites in Early Years (who are finding out about life in Mexico at the moment!) to the children in upper key stage 2 (who are ‘Stepping Back in Time’ for their study of recent history), the creative and imaginative approaches to making each lesson count is a true strength of the school. We continue to be contacted by adults/ volunteers and professionals who want to experience working in our school and we should all feel very proud of that- our reputation is super. Without exception, visitors comment on how personable and friendly the children are- the atmosphere around Tudor evidences just how settled the children are.
#TeamTudor for 2024/25…
In the next newsletter I will share the organisation of the staff team for next academic year. As you already know, some teachers are moving (considerable distances!) away from Hemel Hempstead and we are also wishing Miss Sentance well in her promotion to assistant headteacher at Micklem Primary. Miss Williams, Mr Harvey and Miss Tripp will be new members of our team and I am truly excited for the future. We have already planned for further enhancement to the curriculum including having a choir- how exciting! Let’s keep moving forward…
As shared in the last newsletter, Tudor will be changing the way that we offer swimming lessons from next year. Like a number of other local primary schools, we will be using ‘Pools for Schools’ and having our own Tudor swimming pool for a period. Children in year 3 and year 4 will be having an intensive swimming course during September which includes daily lessons. More information will be sent to families soon. Inclusion at Tudor Primary- a message from Miss Reading- our Assistant Head for Inclusion:
This half term's 'Tudor Coffee Morning' will have a focus on supporting pupils with transitions (to a new class or school)- it will take place on Thurs 27th June at 9am and all parents/carers are very welcome to attend. Dacorum Families SEND Information Fayre is taking place on Thurs 20th June 2024 2-4.30pm, at Bennetts End Community Centre. The fayre will be filled with resources and support for families with special educational needs & disabilities. You will discover local services, chat with experts and connect with other families, facing similar challenges. The Young People’s Health and Wellbeing Survey highlighted some concerning statistics regarding young people’s engagement in physical activity. In response to these findings, Just Talk, a campaign designed to promote the mental health of young people, have announced that their upcoming campaign is 'Just Move It'. Running from 17th June to 8th July, the campaign will spotlight the power of physical activity: how movement boosts mood, promotes inclusivity, fosters social connection, and the variety of opportunities to engage in physical activities across Herts. End of Year Parent Reports- make sure YOUR child is represented…
The final consultation evenings of the year are a vital part of our partnership between home and school. Each family will receive their child's final written report including progress information and key targets for next year. EVERY child deserves to be represented at these meetings. If you are unable to attend the dates we have available please write in your child's red home school diary to alert the teacher. Your engagement is of huge importance and we look forward to seeing you all. To support families, a creche will be available in the hall for children– cost of £2 per child payable in cash on the door. Let’s work TOGETHER.

A(nother) PLEA from the office team- The office team at Tudor would like to remind all parents of the importance of informing the school if your child is absent. It should not be the job of Tudor staff to find out why a child is not in school. Getting to school on time so children can enter their classroom in the correct way is also an expectation that all parents should meet. School staff are having to transport children around the school so that they reach their classroom. Well done to the VAST majority of parents who enable their children to start EVERY DAY in the RIGHT WAY! School starts at 8.45am and this is when we expect children to enter their class.
Safeguarding update from Ms Smith, our Designated Safeguarding Lead
Knowing how to keep our children safe online is a forever changing picture and to help you with this, Hertfordshire publish a really useful and parent-friendly newsletter each term, full of pointers and valuable advice. Whether it's setting up parental controls on your devices at home, or factors to consider when buying your child's first mobile phone, these newsletters point you in the right direction. These newsletters can be found on the safeguarding section of our school website, alongside further websites that offer a wealth of information on key issues and current topics.
The Friends of Tudor Summer Picnic- Saturday 22nd June- From 1pm, on the school field. We hope that as many of the school community can join us as possible. If you are able to help with this event and/ or support with your school’s fundraising group in the future the FOT would LOVE to hear from you. I mentioned the continued success of the skiing lessons in year 6 in the last newsletter and, as those of you who follow the school Twitter/ X pages will know, the feedback that our children have been getting has been truly special.
After last week’s session, two of the ski coaches approached me to say that they regarded Tudor as their favourite school to work with- from the effort they show on the slopes to how well-behaved and supportive of each other they are too! Well done year 6- you continue to flourish as part of #TeamTudor.
