Year 3 visit the War Memorial

As part of learning about the World Wars, we have spent time thinking about how we remember them.

This week started with Armistice Day on Monday. As a school we all took part in a minutes silence during our assembly. We had found out a little about World War One (which ended on 11th November 1918) last week when we used the poem 'Flanders Fields' as inspiration for our own poems.

We thought about what it would have been like in the trenches and to be honest, we found this a bit tricky as it didn't sound very nice at all!

We wrote our poems and took them with us to the local War Memorial. We had our own mini-remembrance there, looking at all the names on the memorial, the poppy wreaths that had been laid there and the reading our poems.
