Recreating the Lewis Chessmen
Viking's loved games and crafts. Some of the most famous artefacts from the Viking era are the Lewis Chessmen. These are chess pieces which were carved from ivory that have been discovered on the Isle of Lewis. If you want to see the real ones, they are on display at The British Museum in London.
After looking at pictures of the chessmen, we sketched our own versions to make out of clay. Adding parts to the clay was a bit tricky and still a skill we need to work on, but we are quite please with some of our results.
