Good morning Year 4,
We’re starting the morning off with some shout outs! Well done Harry B (4U) for your treasure map from Friday, Ana (4U) for your hard work with the emoji Maths challenge, Mia (4V) for your boat that you made out of wood and hammered and sawed and Eliana (4V) for her detailed character description. Keep up the great work everyone.
Guided Reading
This morning, your first task is to answer these questions related to the poem ‘The Highway Man’. You will find the poem as an attachment or the link below –
https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t2-e-134-the-highwayman-poem-booklet
Read pages IV, V and VI.
- What do you notice about the fourth and fifth lines in each stanza?
- What features tell us that this poem is not set in the present day?
- What is a stable-wicket? p.IV
- How does Alfred Noyes describe Tim the Ostler’s face? p.IV
- What technique is used in the phrase ‘his hair like mouldy hay’?
- Do you think Tim is a ‘goodie’ or ‘baddie’? Use evidence from the text to justify your answer.
- Find and copy one word that means the same as beautiful on p.V.
- What are the ‘black waves’? p.VI
For English, you need to complete pages 16 and 17 of your CGP book. Then, you can change Part 1 of The Highwayman into a comic strip using Standard English language instead of poetry. Make sure to include all key parts of the story so far.
After break, for Maths, you need to complete pages 16 and 17 of your CGP book. Then, have a look at the attached Maths sheet. Remember, the level of challenge ranges from one star to three star.
After lunch, c’est Francais! Try drawing different items of clothing and labelling them using the vocabulary sheet attached to the blog. You could even use google translate to find some new words or add colours in after the noun to describe the clothing for example, une jupe rouge = a red skirt.

After topic you can spend thirty minutes on spellingshed.com or maths shed. New spellings were set on Monday but you can also do your own choice of activity on maths shed.
For P.E. today, if you haven’t already, have a look at Mr Higgins’s daily challenges (please do send us a video of you having a go at the challenge) or take part in Joe Wick’s daily workout which starts at 9am.
Have a great day!
All answers to CGP, Guided Reading and Maths will be displayed before 3pm on the Year 4 blog.
